A certain camp among eastern game agency biologists and professionals argue that the eastern US is too densely populated to support cougars, that cougars require the most remote wilderness areas. They haven’t paid attention to the Santa Monica Mountains of west Los Angeles, which supports about a dozen cougars. Griffith Park east of the Santa Monicas, where this male has been roaming for several months, is somewhat comparable to the Bronx’s Van Cortlandt Park.
